The A4C’s

Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge that our organization is located at the intersection of Bearinger Rd. and Albert St., and our programs take place on the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Chonnonton peoples. Their relationship with this land long precedes those of us who live and work here, and it continues to this day.

Despite the erasure they have faced, Indigenous communities have carried forward their connections to this land with resilience and strength. As a community made up of diverse cultures, histories, and heritages, we recognize the importance of honouring Indigenous practices, stories, and the presence of Indigenous peoples, past, present, and future.

In our programs and initiatives, we are committed to learning what it means to live in the right relationship with this land and its peoples, while joining them in the pursuit of reconciliation. As settlers, immigrants, and racialized communities, we know the impacts of displacement, colonization, and silencing, and we stand in solidarity with Indigenous peoples who have endured and resisted these injustices for generations.

We are deeply grateful for the enduring care and stewardship of the Indigenous peoples of Waterloo Region, and we commit to ongoing learning and action in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
