Adventures in Action – 2026 First Quarter

Published: April 23, 2026

As we wrap up our Winter programs at Adventure4Change, we are reminded that the strength of our neighbourhood and wider community lies in the relationships and partnerships we build, and the opportunities we create together.

The African proverb, “you can’t clap with one hand,” has felt especially true this past quarter. Across our programs and events, we have seen the power of collaboration come to life. From inspiring youth leadership sessions and meaningful community conversations to moments of recognizing the impact of our collective work, this season has been a powerful reflection of what we can achieve together.

We are deeply grateful to our partners, supporters, and community members who continue to walk alongside us. Together, we are creating spaces where people feel seen, supported, and inspired to grow.

Thank you for being part of our journey!

Grateful for Visibility

Mazda Local Legend

Mazda local legend

Adventure4Change was honoured to be recognized as a Mazda Local Legend. An acknowledgement made possible by Forbes Mazda. This recognition celebrates organizations that serve as community anchors, creating spaces where individuals feel seen, supported, and empowered to thrive. Our commitment to fostering connection, uplifting others, and driving positive change reflects what it means to be a true community legend.

We are deeply grateful for this recognition and remain inspired to continue creating safe spaces, meaningful opportunities, and lasting impact across Waterloo Region and beyond.

This recognition reflects the dedication, resilience, and collective spirit of the Adventure4Change community, our staff, volunteers, partners, and the families we serve.

Business Excellence Nomination

This year, Adventure4Change was honoured to be nominated for the Greater Kitchener Waterloo Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards in the Nonprofit/Charity category. These awards recognize the outstanding achievements of businesses and individuals while highlighting the high standards and innovation within our local community. This nomination served as an important milestone, and as a reminder that lasting impact is driven by communities coming together with a shared vision of support, opportunity, and belonging.

Strengthening Our Team

Mental Wellness & Crisis Response Training

In the first quarter of the year, Adventure4Change staff completed a series of Mental Wellness and Crisis Response Enhancement training, strengthening our ability to support youth and families through culturally relevant and trauma informed mental health care. This work builds on the extensive training our team already holds, including:

  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Trauma-Informed Care
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
  • Critical Incident Debriefing
  • Crisis Response Planning

Continued staff development ensures that the youth and families we serve receive thoughtful, responsive, and informed support. By investing in training and capacity building, we continue to strengthen the foundation of care that supports our programs and the wellbeing of our community.

Partnership Inspired Programming

Connect: Youth Career Conversation with WhatsBuzzin

At Connect, we had the pleasure of hosting the incredible team from WhatsBuzzin, who delivered an inspiring and energetic session for our youth. The team shared insights about their personal journeys in media, the choices that shaped their careers, and the dedication required to build something meaningful in today’s digital landscape.

A key message they left with our youth was simple but powerful: ‘youth is a superpower’. This is the time to explore interests, take bold steps, and begin shaping a personal brand rooted in passion and purpose.

The session sparked thoughtful conversations around networking, storytelling, media creation, and navigating pathways toward meaningful careers. We extend our sincere thanks to the WhatsBuzzin team for investing their time, energy, and knowledge into the next generation.

Coffee & Conversation: Supporting Mothers in Community

During our recent Moms Coffee and Conversation, we were honoured to welcome a team of staff and students from Wilfrid Laurier University who joined us to share research findings and facilitate an important discussion on menopause.

This women-only gathering is intentionally designed to create a space rooted in trust, cultural sensitivity, and wellbeing. Within this supportive environment, mothers were able to engage openly, ask questions, and share experiences around a topic that is often under-discussed despite its significant impact on women’s health.

By connecting families with research, resources, and one another, we continue to strengthen networks of support that help our community thrive.

Black History Month: Iftar & Community Circle

In celebration of Black History Month, Adventure4Change hosted an Iftar and Community Circle, with an evening rooted in reflection, connection, and meaningful dialogue. As most of our community members were observing Ramadan, the evening began with community members breaking fast together over a meal generously provided by Osmow’s Shawarma in Waterloo.

Sharing food created a welcoming environment that set the stage for rich and thoughtful conversation. Participants engaged in dialogue about identity, belonging, and the depth and diversity of Black history and lived experiences. The evening reminded us that true community is built not only through programs but also through intentional spaces where people feel seen, heard, and valued.

As a token of appreciation, each panelist was presented with a handmade bag from Basadi Sewing, recognizing their time, insight, and meaningful contribution to the conversation. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us and helped make the evening a powerful and memorable gathering.

Community Gathering: Iftar at The Hub

On March 11, Adventure4Change, in partnership with the Social Development Centre, hosted another beautiful community Iftar at The Hub, bringing people together to break fast, share meaningful conversation, and deepen connections.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of the Civic Hub team, the evening was made even more special through generous food donations from local restaurants Aunty’s Kitchen, OnCoal, and Pasha. The evening was filled with warmth, reflection, and a powerful sense of togetherness as community members gathered across cultures, experiences, and perspectives.

Moments like these remind us how important it is to create spaces where everyone feels seen, welcomed, and connected. We are deeply grateful to our partners, supporters, and all who joined us. This is what community truly looks like.

Black Student Union Activation

This season we continued supporting the thriving Black Student Union at EDSS, by maintaining a dedicated space for Black students to connect, build leadership skills, and strengthen their sense of belonging within the school community. The initiative provides students with opportunities to celebrate culture, share experiences, and support one another academically and socially while developing leadership and advocacy skills.

In partnership with EDSS, students also participated in an outing to Activate, where they were able to spend time together in a fun and engaging environment. While the event provided a chance to unwind, it also strengthened peer relationships, encouraged teamwork, and fostered confidence outside of the classroom. Opportunities like these are important reminders that youth development and support happens not only in structured learning environments, but also through shared experiences that build trust, community, and joy.
